How to help

From DKPLP Doc

If you like DKP Log Parser then please consider helping out a bit in return. There are many ways to help the project, here is a list of a few examples (but there are probably more ways).

Contents

Documentation

This wiki might contain a lot of information, but it could be more helpful. Developers are generally blinded by knowing every detail of the project and have a hard time figuring out what people likely do not know and need information about. So to put it simply: this wiki needs to become more helpful (especially to new users).

Awarness

There have only been a couple of small efforts to make the world aware of that the project exists:

Spreading the word about the project or providing suggestions about how to raise awareness would be very appreciated.

Splash image

The current splash image (the one shown when the program is loading) should probably be replaced with a better one. If you can create a better one (which can't be especially hard, considering that it's just a big green box with some text) then please take the opportunity to have your image displayed every time DKP Log Parser is started. Please upload the image in png or some similar format.

Suggestions

Suggestions about new features and providing feedback on existing features is always welcome.

Support

People often come to the forums with lots of questions. Answering the questions or pointing them to places where the answers can be found is appreciated, this can also be coupled with creating answers for common questions and inserting them somewhere in this wiki.

Testing

Development builds are released before every major (and most minor) releases, testing those builds is very helpful.

Pattern sets

DKP Log Parser can handle different games with different logs, so any pattern sets that you would like to share with otheres or any suggestions as to what games we should add patterns to are welcome. If you suggest a new game then please provide a sample log though so that there's something to work with.

Server interfaces

DKP Log Parser can communicate with any server that implements a specific XML-RPC interface. Currently the only known implementations are for EQDKP, but it would be nice to expand to other DKP softwares for servers, allowing DKP Log Parser to communicate with them to. If you have any suggestions of other server software that records DKP then please tell and someone might try to create implementations for them too. If you know of other existing implementations of the interface then please let everyone know by adding it to the list of known implementations.

GUI

The current GUI could be improved quite a bit. So coming up with a plan to improve the GUI visually and/or providing icons to replace the current buttons would be appreciated.

Programming

This is an open source project and additional programmers are welcome. The language used is Java 1.5 . The project has a subversion repository and questions are welcome in the development forum.
