Quickstart guide
From DKPLP Doc
This is a quickstart guide covering how to get the client up and running.
Initial setup
The log parser is not of much use on its own: it is designed to interface with a server supporting a defined XML-RPC interface. As a result it needs to be configured to know how to communicate with the server.
The first time the program is launched a configuration wizard will pop up (which can also be reopened from the help menu). The most important settings are set there. These are:
- Server Url - The url to the home page of the EQDKP server installation. Typically this is something like http://www.sitename.com/eqdkp .
Use the 'test' button to ensure you have the correct url configured. This will pop up a box asking for a username and password. Ask your EQDKP administrator for what these should be. If the url is incorrect, you will receive a connection failure message. If the url is correct, you'll see a successful connection message. Use the 'view ranks' button to check the set of ranks available on the server. It's best if all checkboxes are ticked initially: this tells the client to allow dkp to be set on all members with any rank.
- Predefined sets - Set this to the appropriate value for your game and what kind of method you'll be using to keep track of the members present on your raid. (whether via a /who command or via a raid output command)
- Zero-sum modes - DKPLP provides the capacity to perform zero-sum calculations on a raid via an interval, or per minute. Or you can turn zero-sum calculations off.
- 'Check for new updates on startup - Allow the client, when it starts up, to check with the server to see if there is a newer version of the software available. A message will be displayed if a newer version is found and commands are available in the menu to download and update the software automatically.
Verifying your setup
After completing the wizard you might also want to check the member list to make sure that your guild's members are there. The list in your local DKPLP installation is merged with the member list on the EQDKP server when you connect. If you have members already set on a pre-existing EQDKP installation, ensure they have been pulled down to your DKPLP installation by:
- Connect to the server by going to Server->Connect
- Go to Edit->Member List
- Check the list of members is there.
If the member list is not populated, check that your client is allowing members of all ranks: go to Edit->Preferences->Server and hit the 'View Ranks' button. Ensure all checkboxes are ticked. Disconnect and reconnect to the server to refresh the member list.
Basic Configuration
By default, your system will be configured according to whatever zero-sum system you requested in the configuration wizard. You will still need to set up the values which control how fast DKP is accumulated by members on a raid. These are all held in the preferences: Edit->Preferences. At least, you will want to set the figures in the Initial Values tab as by default, they are set to award 0 dkp per interval/per minute so your raid members will receive no DKP unless you set some values!
- Zero-sum by interval
- You will want to set the 'Default DKP bonus per interval'.
- Zero-sum by minute
- You will want to set the 'Added participant bonus per minute.'
- No zero-sum
- You may want to set the 'added participant bonus per minute'.
These will be enough to get you started. You will want to check out the information on configuration for a more in-depth discussion about the many options to control how your raid members can accrue DKP on a raid.
